Racism and discrimination in Lebanese media against Syrian refugees is not recent, nor is it just a case of a few bad cases; it's systematic. I'm happy that The Listening Post on Al Jazeera English chose to do a feature on this issue, which only has been getting worse. Those who know me very well personally know that this issue has been driving me nuts for quite some time.
The episode features an interview with me, as well as colleagues Ayman Mehanna, Executive Director of the Samir Kassir Foundation, and Diana Moukalled, TV Producer and columnist.
As some might have noticed, we have seen cases of violence from both individuals and the state against Syrians and Syrian refugees being swept under the rug; we have to acknowledge that the media's role in crucial in empowering those actions.
And of course, what makes this even more horrific is that the information or data is based on hearsay or often taken verbatim without any interest in verification or fact-checking.
